Chiho Saito has stated that she wrote the story with a prince waiting for her at the end. Her version was a lot more like regular shoujo, and not nearly as interesting.

So are you saying that a man is the one who came up with the ideas, then? I wants me some proof.

There's a commentary with both of them during the last few episodes of the series on the US-release DVDs where they talk about it. There's also information online.

I dunno if she does, but Kunihiko Ikuhara most likely has one. Not that I've ever checked or anything.
