(Anonymous) 2016-02-15 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)Sometimes, when viewed safely in hindsight, major fandom batshittery is kind of really entertaining and fun to remember. Were people around here active in Potterdammerung? Where it was basically a giant free-for-all screaming pie fight (if the pies were made of shit) for a few weeks there? Nothing like it, really.

Write manifestos on why it's *not* problematic, accuse other ships/kinks of being problematic instead, and you're bound to get some hate.

but that would probably be the worst strategy.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 01:11 am (UTC)(link)Incest is another big one. You can mix it with underage with such ships as Elsa/Anna and Dipper/Mabel for even more likelihood of people harassing you.
Make sure that you go against the grain. Whenever tumblr randomly says a character is gay or trans, despite literally no evidence to the contrary, make sure to ship them with the opposite gender. Make smut headcanons for the ones they call asexual, pair the ones they claim are lesbian (with literally no proof for that headcanon )with men.
There's actually several crowds you can piss off! If you ship something that excludes a POC character, you can get the types of fans who cry "klandom" and "racist" at you. If you ship slash over a canon m/f you can get the proghet (short for progressive het) people after you. If you do it over a f/f pair, you can get the worst of the bunch, the wanky gold star TERFy lesbians. These are known to go way past fandom and harass pretty much anyone else in the LGBT community. Bisexuals, pansexuals, trans women, trans men, NB people, it's all fair game for this one radical side of the lesbians. You hit bingo if they call you a cocksucker, bihet, or use transphobic slurs against you!
Even more, find out the antis and engage with them. It'll bring tons more hate from the type of people who follow them, like dropping a bloody piece of meat into a shark tank.
Though, you should probably do this with a sock and a good proxy. Make sure not to use an email connected to your real name, because they like to dox.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 02:32 am (UTC)(link)Anyone who has been on tumblr knows what sets them off. They are easily triggered and those ships they listed are just some popular ones that are primary targets.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 01:43 am (UTC)(link)So far my hate mail has basically been:
Levi/Eren-"uh u do kno levi/eren is a pedophile ship and u should be ashamed of urself right?" ...I responded to this with fanart from a doujinshi of Levi thoroughly rimming Eren and "I'm sorry I couldn't hear you through the sounds of enthusiastic ass eating" lol.
Haru/Makoto- "They're like super codependent, that's abusive" <--this was just a salty RinHaru person who got pissed off that I had a pretty popular live-blog thing where I would just comment my thoughts as I watched, and I flipped my noodle at the last episode where Makoto and Haru actually ended up in Tokyo together.
I also got hate for an untagged, personal rant where I mentioned I just honestly do not get the popularity of Kuro/Tsukishima from Haikyuu!!. It seemed really shallow to me, and that didn't appeal.
Oh, and Soubi/Ritsuka, another "u pedophile u should be ashamed i tell ya!" type series of hatemail.
Essentially hate mail is either people who are so miserable they want you to be miserable too (see random unprovoked RinHaru hatemail person), think they're going to get all righteous about fictional freaking characters who don't need protection, they're pixels and/or scraps of paper (Soubi/Ritsuka, Levi/Eren), or that sort of headscratcher where someone is offended when they have no right to be (see my own private, untagged post about Kuro/Tsukishima which I put behind a cut and warned repeatedly not to read if Kuro/Tsukishima is your thing, although the fact that I reblog exclusively Kuro/Kenma and Tsukishima/Yamaguchi should have been warning enough tbh).

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 03:04 am (UTC)(link)As for people who already followed you getting upset, maybe you should have a 'before you follow' page listing your OTP and nOTP's, especially if you occasionally talk about them.
To be honest... sometimes I read ship hate even for some ships I like just out of curiosity, but as long as they gave a warning or put it under a cut I won't say anything about it. Too bad most people don't even give that courtesy. I hate tumblrs search function.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 07:12 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, honestly I just tag stuff like that with #rant and #personal, so it doesn't show up in any ship tags period.
"As for people who already followed you getting upset, maybe you should have a 'before you follow' page listing your OTP and nOTP's, especially if you occasionally talk about them."
Oh I do have that! I also warn a lot of I think I've said something that would upset someone else's ship preferences. This was just some obvious nasty hate mail that happened because I think I was linked in some other fandom space as a MakoHaru fan who live-tumblred the series, so it was random hate, not an actual follower of mine. Despite sounding kind of snotty in my earlier comment (I dunno wtf is up with that, I guess talking about getting hate mail makes me sound like someone who did something to deserve it! ^^;;; ) I take a ton of precautions not to upset anyone. I'm not out to ruin anyone's fandom experience.

Same here, guilty as charged. Sometimes I do it to see which parts I can actually agree with (hey, not every ship can be Sparkling and Pure, right?), and I also do it sometimes when I need a laugh because some people just can't keep their salt intake down and it's really obvious in how they demonize the character that they perceive as "getting in the way" of their ship. :P
But yeah, I've never been a fan of people who don't warn for that shit or put it behind a cut to allow people the courtesy of whether or not they want to read.
