Things that don't quite match your memory

[personal profile] leisuretime 2016-02-16 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Last week, I rewatched Little Spies for the first time in at least 20 years (maybe more like 25). Parts of it were practically ripped directly from my brain, that's how well I remembered it. But one thing that stood out was how young everyone was. Not just in a "by comparison to now way" but in an "I remember them being older way."

I'm sure it's just that I was probably younger than them when I first saw it, but it was still weird. Ditto for Peter Pan and the Pirates, a cartoon that was on Fox in the late 80s, early 90s. I just remember its art and voice acting seeming so much better.

What are some things where your memory doesn't quite matxh reality?

I remember the original Sailor Moon dub being so awesome and perfect. I recently re-watched it to compare it with the new dub. The acting's not as great as I remember it being and some of the dialogue is pretty cringe-worthy, but there are some parts that are still pretty hilarious. The scriptwriters sure liked the word "hunk" for some reason.

Peter Pan and the Pirates was a great show. The pirates were the best part. I watched it recently and none of it was familiar, except for Billy Jukes and Slightly being bros in one episode.

I'm not sure this is what you had in mind, but I have a really weird one.

When I was seven or eight, I had some friends my older sister was babysitting, so we both stayed over. Cool cool.

Well, I woke up in the night, and somehow the sheets had turned into feathers. I was really freaked out, but my sister reminded me that she'd told me this might happen. There was an explanation, but I forget what it was.

I now logically know that bed sheets don't turn into feathers overnight. But I'd love to know what actually happened. I don't think it was a dream, I think I've just exaggerated it in my head.

Actually, this happened with me with X-Files. I remembered it being MUCH scarier than what it is. I still love the show though.

I remember watching The Power of One (favorite movie soundtrack ever!) at about 14 and thinking the characters looked so grown up, and then watching it again at about 20 and thinking they looked so young.
