Who even wears fedoras?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-16 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I go to regularly to comic and video game stores and I've never seen one.

I'm convinced it's some sort of dumb conspiracy because I've never seen one of these so called fedora athetist neckbeards or whatever.

And if you're some severely depressed basement dweller shut-in you're gonna wear baggy comfortable things, not some weird get up.

I've seen fedoras both in the wild and online. It definitely happens. Probably less so these days.

I used to wear one when I was like 16. I thought they were cool and bought one at Hot Topic. It became some stupid meme because making fun of what people wear is hilarious, right?

I think it's pretty shitty that ugly neckbeards who like in their mom's basement are a-go to target. I mean, it's pretty likely that most of those people are some of some autism or have bad anxiety/depression.

Ah, but nothing you do to a straight white guy can count as bad. Only actions supported by social structures of oppression can be hurtful.

I've never seen an actual fedora in real life, accompanied by a neckbeard or not.

I actually think fedoras can look nice, I have nothing against them.

I know someone who wears a fedora. It's not to make a statement other than liking the look and wanting to keep his head dry and hands free when it rains, though.

I have seen a few in my time. They fully fit the stereotype.

One was a PUA jerkoff who knocked up a friend of mine and then tried to stalk her and the baby.

One was a random guy at my school who went around with a printed off piece of paper taped to his backpack with a #NOTALLMEN screed on it. No, I'm dead serious. In public.

Small sample size, but I will surely never think about wearing a fedora because of this.

Never seen a fedora around, but there was a guy on my old campus who wore a trilby (the hat in the meme) and actually tipped it when I walked by.

I remember a female friend wearing one once, too.

Just this guy from my old school. He always carried his guitar with him.

It was more of a trend 10 years ago, but the concept of it/shorthand for a certain type of dude has stuck around.

Sadly, they exist as well as the people who wear them. Had a coworker who wore one. Skinny hipster fuck.

I mean, if you're going to wear a vintage hat, WEAR A GODDAMN SUIT. Not some shitty three-wookie moon shirt that shows off your bad tattoos.

My roommate always wears a cheap fedora. At least, I'm pretty sure it's a fedora?

He's a bit socially awkward and sometimes a jackass, but he's not a neckbeard. He just likes the hat.

If it's cheap, it's probably not a fedora.

I'm female and I used to wear a hat. No idea if it was a fedora or a trilby or whatever. But it was 10 years ago in college, quite some time before the whole stereotype got off the ground. People seemed to like it back then. As others have said, it depends on what you wear with it. And I treated it like any other hat, meaning I took it off when I got indoors. I had a black velvet-y hat that I wore with a bright red coat and for lighter weather a pink plaid one with a light green jacket.

The only time I remember questioning my decision to wear it was when I was wearing my black hat/red coat combo with black trousers and some random guy told me I reminded him of Michael Jackson. He smiled, but I had no idea if it was a compliment.

The beautiful guy who stepped onto the bus last week in a three-piece suit including a pocket square and a snazzy flower.

It's rare, but I've seen the stereotypical asshole in a fedora several times. They DO wear comfy baggy clothes with the fedora. It's not like the outfit necessarily mathces or anything, it's just usual creepy nerd dude clothes with an added fedora.

- I was sketching in public. Dude in a fedora and (I shit you not) wolf shirt and Tripp shorts came up to me. Complimented my drawing and asked me if I could draw "anything". Told him yeah. He proceeded to whip out his phone and pull up some kind of zany tentacle hentai pic. "Can you draw this?" Thankfully a friend of his distracted him at this point and saved me from responding.

- Dude in fedora, t-shirt, shorts, and a leather trenchcoat w/ horrible hygiene in line at Wal-mart.

- Fedora dude in ironic dick-joke shirt w/ neckbeard and atheist pin on his hat came through my register and kept using bizarrely antiquated phrases. Thankfully did not call me m'lady but I was bracing myself for it.

- Few more fedoras at a distance throughout the years.

I had class with a guy who wore a fedora. He even had a neckbeard and everything. He was a really nice guy (actually nice, not Nice Guy nice) and actually did his fair share during group projects, unlike most of my classmates. He would've been really cute without the neckbeard. I've never seen a guy pull that look off.

it seems like it was more of a trend a few years back but the terminology stuck around, as such things tend to do
