So, I absolutely adored Breaking Bad, but I watched the first half of the first season of BCS last year and it was a total miss for me. Does it get better? Actually, I'm not sure if I should say it's worse than BB in writing or whatever, it just didn't have the same character dynamics that Walter/Jesse had and I think that's why it felt flat. Does it make up for that at all?

It's definitely a different show than BrBa, and the slower pace of BCS seems to be the main critical point that fans of BrBa have for it. It doesn't have the same kind of on the edge energetic feel, but what it lacks in that it makes up for in story and character development. Watch the rest of season one and you might be surprised. It's excellent story-wise imo.
