I remember when both weren't contrived crap with manufactured drama instead of drama that springs naturally from situations.

Say what?

I dare you watch any big sports anime and say there wasn't any manufactured drama in the "good old days" of anime. I mean, "Star of the Giants" is freaking loaded with contrived drama, and that's from the late 60's/early 70's. Not to mention "Captain Tsubasa". Heck, I've been watching "Lady Georgie" lately and it is the epitome of manufactured drama. That's from the 1980s. Or any of the space operas from that timeframe.

I think there may be some tinted goggles at work here. Nice rosy ones.
