lol at "extreme bullying and abuse". Are you serious? He was a twat but he wasn't the guy from 'Whiplash'.

And Snape was doing good for the last 17 years of his life. He repeatedly risked his life to protect Harry.

Well, the guy in Whiplash was, explicitly, doing it to make his student better. Snape didn't care if his students learned anything as long as he got to belittle them.
