Is there anything more boring

than the post-Grammys new wave of people whining about Alexander Hamilton being played by a Puerto Rican man

And he's pretty white passing, tbh.

At any rate the point of the casting was to compare modern immigration to immigration 300 years ago soooo yeah.

Oh gawd are they? Theatre/stage has cared less about race in casting for decades now, but some people seem to have just gotten the message.

I also just love the idea that suddenly we have to LEAP TO DEFEND the great memory and whiteness of Alexander Hamilton, like anybody getting upset about his being played by a Latino man cared about Hamilton an hour ago. Anybody who cares about the history of the time period is delighted that it's getting attention! Me, I'm just thrilled I get to tell people that Hamilton once wrote to the national bank--the one he founded--to ask how much money he had, because he forgot to write it down.

Also, there's no excuse for this shit besides racism. There's that too.

Wow. Hamilton sounds a lot like me. I've maybe done similar things.

I think it's kind of cool because Hamilton was born on an island not to far from Puerto Rico.

SA

I mean, it's cool that he's played by a Puerto Rican guy, not that it's cool people are bitching about it.

It's interesting to me because everyone I know is so fucking annoyingly obsessed with it that it's like I'm in this insular world of everyone loving it that I forget that people could actually have an issue with it.

Next time you encounter such people, point out that he was born out of wedlock, and his mother was a whore. That should shut them up.

He was, but she likely wasn't.

ETA: Also, not sure that would help?

Isn't that even the very first line in the whole musical?

Sooo boring. I don't know why its so hard for people to get that sometimes in theatre, choices aren't meant to 100 percent accurately represent reality?
