They were all different kinds of awful, in that way that kid's shows are when they're going for 'realistic.' Carly was a bit stuck up, Sam was violent, and Freddie was a creepy 'nice guy', although they all grew up a bit by the end.

This is exactly what drives me nuts about Creddie. It would have been fine, not my ship but fine, if they had ANY HINTS that the show was going that way. Although I guess part of it was that Sam was getting her own spin-off.

Yeah, they all grew up but I do feel like Freddie/Carly just brought up way too many of the 'bad' parts still lingering in the characters. To be honest it's not even like an 'anti ship' of mine or anything, it's just the way they went about it was so forced and ridiculous that it soured me completely on them. (I feel like they were rewarding Freddie's "Nice Guy" syndrome regarding Carly, among other things.)

...Wait Sam got her own spin-off? I'm taking it that it bombed since I don't even remember it?

I think I would have hated them regardless because even with build up, it goes back to 'if you're nice enough eventually she will stop friendzoning you and realize you were true loves all along!' I had hoped they'd gotten over the Nice Guy shtick.

Yeah, Jeannett McCurdy went on to star on Sam and Cat, which I hear was... Not good. I refused to watch it because by then I was like, 20.
