Interview Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-02-19 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I have an interview tomorrow morning. I always get really nervous and jumble my words during interviews so they don't go well for me.

Any tips? How do you handle interviews?

A complete and total slide into apathy and hopelessness did wonders for my interview-anxiety.

A shot of liquid courage before going in. Preferably one with mint so you get fresh breath in addition.

(Only half joking)

Honestly, prepare a couple potential answers to the common interview questions. Don't freak out and think you have to or you'll fail if you don't, but if you can train your brain to have a few nice sentences and eloquent enough answers you'll feel a lot better going in.

Ask questions too, to see if they're a good fit for you.

I usually look up the employer on Glassdoor and grab interview questions from the reviews. Then I come up with answers and practice them. It doesn't help with anxiety but it does mean that when I'm in the interview I already the answers. I can spend my energy speaking instead of thinking up things to say. Right before the interview I try to read/watch something hilarious because laughing helps relieve the "oh god I'm going to fail" feeling at least temporarily. Plus, it won't hurt to go in smiling.
