Re: Your "worst" ships

I think I like season 6 to a point - but after Tabula Rasa, I felt that it really did veer off the road into nasty territory. And again, I am fine with writers venturing into that territory when those are the issues they want to explore, except in this case, it seemed the Buffy writers were always clarifying and essentially saying "no, you don't understand - you're not watching the show properly". Kind of the Anne Rice "you're interrogating the text from the wrong perspective" argument.

I feel like I would have liked Season 6 better than I do if I hadn't been involved in online fandom and aware of what was going on behind the scene with the writers.

But, nevertheless, I still love my Spuffy, as messy and problematic and difficult as it is. It was one of my first great fandom loves, so I guess that sticks.

Yeah, I'm all for 'what the author says is canon' but if you have to clarify every single thing, you are maybe not writing very well. And season 6 kind of felt like 'HOW MANY BAD THINGS CAN WE WRITE ABOUT? ALL OF THEM? LETS DO ALL OF THEM!'

I was way too young for the fandom, and also too young to properly understand abuse (I was 10 when it ended and had grown up with the show, so I was mostly watching season 6 between the ages of 9 and 15ish) so I had no interaction with the authors and no interaction with people going 'ewwwww' so my love just kept growing.

Yeah, your first ships stick with you!
