(Rick and Morty)

Why is it an either/or thing? Are there no third options?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
That's a rather strange conclusion to jump to. It's more likely he just fucked up on that exchange. As people often do.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
The way I see it he simply meant that any kind of AU is technically possible in Rick & Morty, even one where they're in a healthy relationship which logically implies they're not related in that timeline and Morty is of age.

Sure he said that to troll the stuck-up part of fandom because OF COURSE they'll take the most offensive interpretation out of it.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Did he actually single out child abuse survivors to mock, or was he just mocking the idea of anyone being uncomfortable with it?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
he retweeted a screenshot of a single post of a csa survivor.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
When the debacle was going on I remember him making "TRIGGERED" jokes about it with another user on his Twitter. I have no idea if they were deleted or not though.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, he's not as deep as he thinks. then again Rick represents his opinions on things, even if it's an edgy extreme of it.
(I mean, he cosplayed and identified with Birdperson, THE Rick advocate of the whole series.)

so the fact that Rick noticed the hints that Morty had been assaulted on the toilet and that it didn't get played off as a joke presumably showcases some sincerity and awareness when it comes to male csa survivors

that he's not emotionally smart enough to not insult his fans over the multiverse debacle on the other hand... makes me doubt that he would act appropriately if it doesn't suit his book.

I think it's mainly Dan Harmon's influence that tones down Roiland's edginess so the serious topics are handled with good taste.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
oh yeah... that's probably true.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I realized that when I watched some of Roiland's earlier works, some of them are actually fairly good, but others, in particular "Impossible Tales" are just extremely disturbing for the sake of being disturbing.

And just in case anyone decides to look up "Impossible Tales" out of curiousity here's a trigger warning fairly graphic (animated) violence and implied CSA. I looked it up on YouTube because I was on a spree looking up the works that went on to inspire R&M and all I heard about it was it had "very dark" humor. (I actually can appreciate Black Comedy but I just thought it was very disturbing)

Basically if you are unable to watch the scene with King Jellybean (this short is actually where the original version of his character made his first appearence) in the series for whatever reason, I would strongly suggest against watching it.

Seriously, after seeing that I became so much more grateful for Dan Harmon's influence.

Can someone fill me in on this a little? With some links or something? He mocked childhood abuse survivors and...confirmed a canon!MortyxRick multiverse theory? I'm a casual fan of this show so I'm not following this secret well at all. D:

Whether he was traumatized or not, he does come off as having contempt for people who put their vulnerabilities out in the open. Prying it out of him in hopes of having someone to identify with will come to nothing.
