But that would require raising taxes.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily. It requires redistribution of taxes. You could argue we should stop trying to build other countries and start rebuilding our own. Non-hawk conservatives don't have qualms with that.

...so?

Nah, we could just cut welfare and make people earn a living instead.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Which welfare are you going to cut? And how are you going to do it without depriving deserving, needy people of housing, or food, or an education?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm on my phone but I don't think you can talk about welfare and jobs without talking about decline in real wages and productivity increases.

That said I'm perfectly fine with any kind of transit infrastructure spending pretty much.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
are you under the impression everyone is capable of maintaining work?

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
'They can get a job.'

Oh, I see. Who knew the solution was so simple? We must have been so stupid not to realize it.

So you're going to ignore actual job capability and liability and just have companies hand out a bunch of jobs, then, right?

Are we talking disability benefits too?
If so, see Monty Python gif.

Oh yeah. I'm sure some of my acquaintances, or at least one or two who can't get around without the use of a wheelchair or service dog, would be THRILLED to know they've really been 100% self-sufficient all this time and just need to stop being lazy little shits cheating the system.

I'm tired so I can't tell if we're on the same page. Sorry. I was just having a joke with Icey.
I am actually a wheelchair user myself, and I plan to cost the government money by continuing to exist for hopefully many years to come.

:)

I support raising taxes if it means more things we don't have to pay so much for, like insurance and tuition and such. The USA actually has extremely low taxes compared to other countries, I think raising taxes is probably a good idea.

Of course, raise 'em highest on the rich.

Contrary to popular belief, the rich pay plenty of taxes.

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/03/24/high-income-americans-pay-most-income-taxes-but-enough-to-be-fair/

...after all federal taxes are factored in, the U.S. tax system as a whole is progressive. The top 0.1% of families pay the equivalent of 37.9% and the bottom 20% have negative tax rates (that is, they get more money back from the government in the form of refundable tax credits than they pay in taxes).

I intend to one day become rich. I hope everybody else strives for the same, as opposed to trying to tax the rich out of existence.

DA

It's not rich individuals so much as mega corps run and owned by the rich who use tax shelters to evade taxation. The article you linked even mentions that.
