Absolutely, and I think these issues go hand-in-hand. One of the reasons healthcare costs so freaking much is BECAUSE of the insurance companies. When hospitals have to have extensive infrastructure to deal with the red tape, that drives costs up. When the hospital doesn't get paid for services rendered, that drives cost up. When the hospital does get paid, but not for 3-6 months, that drives costs up. There is no reason on earth that it should ever cost someone tens of thousands of dollars for a few days of inpatient care. The actual costs of treatment aren't the problem. The entire cost that we are paying for is overhead.

Related is the issue of malpractice insurance, but I'm honestly not well-versed enough in that issue to dissect it.
