There is no "answer" really, if we're being honest. Except maybe some fans understanding that being massively stereotypical can be kind of hurtful to trans people, even if it's "just fiction". I think striving to do right by the people you're fetishizing for your jerk-off sessions is a good thing.(That is what 90% of the trans fic I've seen is, if anybody has any links to more plotty, well written fics that deal with a guy being trans and it's not all about the porn payoff, I'd be down for reading it. I don't mind sex in my fics (in fact I love it), but it's become pretty obvious that it's basically all about getting off to cis guy on trans guy erotica. If there's a sex scene as part of a larger work I'm totally cool with that too, just no 2K fics where sex takes up 1K.) It's okay to find trans guys attractive. It's okay to objectify in a fictional setting sometimes for the purpose of getting off. I'm not begrudging that at all.

But the way I've seen some people in fandom, Haikyuu!! fandom particularly, treating trans men like their body configurations are only there to titillate cis readers, it's kind of hard to swallow at points. There's such a thing as oversexualization of trans people. Trans women have felt the effects of it since the 80's, and trans men have been a topic of fetishization since the mid 90's. While it might just be "one fic from one author", it has a cumulative effect.

I always respect when people acknowledge how their fic is very clearly just fantasy. That's basically all I, personally, as a trans person need. Just an acknowledgement that this isn't how you feel about trans men in real life. Because I've followed trans fics to their author's blogs before and have seen some...real life fetishization issues going on, following trans male blogs and reblogging trans guys pics with really fetishy shit in the tags, that sort of thing. Anything over and beyond acknowledging fantasy vs reality is just icing on the cake in my opinion. Maybe they can start thinking why they headcanon all the short, thin, not traditionally masculine characters as FtM, and perhaps try and break that mold a bit if they feel so inclined. (I'm still waiting for FtM Asahi! There was one fic for it, but the author deleted it after the first chapter pretty quickly.)
