I'm watching Ace of the Diamond (Diamond no Ace) on crunchyroll right now. The second season is currently airing and I'm almost caught up. It's a baseball anime! I started watching it because I love baseball, but others might enjoy it beyond that (characters, relationships, etc).

A friend who's not really into IRL sports said she watched sports anime because it has, "the same sort of tension as fighting anime but without the ridiculous stakes attached. And generally less filler." Which seems to be true afaik, but I don't know other works either genre very well. But I'm enjoying this one as I wait for the new baseball season to start.

It's not a slash/boys love series, but I can definitely see multiple possible slash ships as possibilities-- I haven't explored the fandom, so I don't know what's getting written. As it's a pitching-focused show, it's obvious to pair the batteries (a battery is the technical term for the pitcher-catcher combo): my favorite combo would be Sawamura/Chris for the close-in-age but student-mentor relationship, although it's possible to see a sort of "love triangle" of catcher Miyuki with main pitchers Sawamura and Furuya. Possibly Chris/Tanba, but they don't get enough of a focus. And Sawamura/Furuya themselves as rivals/hate-love.

And middle-infield duos (shortstop and 2nd baseman) are also natural pairings, so that's Kuramochi/either of the Kominato brothers, but mostly older brother Ryosuke. It's sort of implied in the show that younger brother Haruichi has a crush on Sawamura, but that's the closest there is to any canon slash content. But then again it's all, "the battery has to think like one person" and that's super intimate and intense. So ships are well within the realm of possibility.

I agree completely about sports anime v fight anime. You've got to love how dramatic they are and how much drive the characters have.
