F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with captchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff. If you want me to link your thread up here, drop a link in the first comment!

I want to move

(Anonymous) 2016-02-20 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to move to the city (I live in a pretty quiet, rural area now several hours away from the nearest proper city). Should I ... just do it, or be responsible and find a job first? I feel like it'd be easier to look for and find jobs while I'm there, but it'd be stupid to get an apartment and pay all the moving costs, then never get employed.

It's just hard to find work where I live now and I really need to live somewhere more exciting.

Anyone else impulsively moved before? What's the biggest move you've ever done in your professional life (not as a student, or with your family when you were young)?

Find a job first. Don't be stupid.

Damn it, I wanted you to tell me the opposite. But thanks, I know you're right.

DA. The only exception would be if for some reason moving would highly increase your chances of getting a job.

ayrt

I think it would increase my chances in the sense that I could apply to jobs in person rather than simply online, and make my face a little more known. I'd also of course be able to do interviews any time.

But yeah, it probably wouldn't be worth the potential disaster of not instantly finding a job, and screwing myself over with debt.

or maybe it would. idk

You could save up some money and visit. Find a hotel/motel with a decent weekly rate, fridge and microwave. That way you'd be there to apply for jobs, and even if you didn't get one right away, you'd still get a nice little vacation out of it.

I've never moved before so this might not be good advice, but is it possible for you to spend some time in the city looking for a job before you move? I definitely think spontaneously moving wouldn't be wise.

Job first. To do otherwise is completely moronic.

I don't know how it works where you live, but in my country you can't get an appartment in the first place without a payslip proving you have enough income to pay for the rent. So, you need a regular job first.

Why do you think it'd be easier to job hunt in person? Most people look online for jobs, something you could do just as easily where you are. I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but in this economy I think it'd be far too risky to spend money on the move and a place to live in a location that probably has a higher cost of living without the surety of a job AND at least a couple months' savings in case of emergencies.
