F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with captchas and stuff).
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff. If you want me to link your thread up here, drop a link in the first comment!

List of threads:

Just out of curiosity...

How many people used to post on F!S with named accounts, and don't any longer?

I briefly had a named account which I created specifically for this comm, but I got lazy. Plus, I think I'd suck at handling the bullying/stalkers and I admired basically every named user to just laughs and moves on.

Right here. Didn't really bond with anyone and I kept at it for about a year or two, so figured it wasn't worth the effort.

tbh I've been using a registered account for 6+ years and I don't think I've ever really made friends with anyone here. I know everyone's names, but it's not like I'd ever hit them up for a casual conversation or anything.

I want to make friends here, but I think the group is just too tight.

I'm named, on and off. But then I'm not interested in bonding with anyone, I just like getting the comment reply notifications.

Same. I'm too lazy to keep up with a conversation otherwise.

I used to post named, for the privilege level, but I got too attached to the persona I created and found that it interfered with posting honestly. I dropped it pretty soon afterwards.

I find I post too honestly as a named user.

I don't know how you do this, because as a named user I'm constantly afraid I'm oversharing and someone is going to find out my irl identity and then rat me out to my bosses because they're mad about something stupid.

I know people who have lost careers over this shit, so it's a real concern.

Someone at Yelp got fired yesterday because she said her wages didn't cover San Fran rent levels. Never post online using your real identity, it isn't 1997 any longer.

I did that too. Now I have another account that I want to use to be my actual asshole self but it's still hard.

I did for a while in like 2009/2010. Then I was out of fandom for a couple years and never bothered signing back in.

Me. I was so embarrassing.

Things got kind of stressful and toxic for me.

Me. i still would if this trash heap had stayed on LJ.

Yup. I hate the way a small minority decided they were going to force a move to DW and gamed the system to do it. LJ has been stable for ages too. I'm wondering if they were part of the DDOS farmers.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't care one way or the other about the move but I still can't LJ to work.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-21 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is NOT why people left LJ for DW and Tumblr.

I used to, but I kept getting jumped on for even the most innocuous things. It's a much less toxic place to be since I just went anon. Haven't changed the kind of things I post, but rarely (if ever) get attacked.

I did for a long time at first, but then I said something really stupid years ago and felt so bad I went anon forever.

i stopped posting with a named account when we switched from livejournal

dreamwidth keeps logging me out all the time and i'm too lazy to keep signing back in

I keep forgetting to log in so I just stay anonymous.

I posted anon for years, posted sporadically with a named account for a few months, and then went back to being anon. IDK if I'll ever bring my account out of retirement.
