Dumbing of Age

I've been getting into this comic lately and aside from a secret I think I remember seeing about the whole Billie/Ruth subplot, I don't see much for it.

It's an interesting sort of slice of life thing.

(lately I've been pulled into the Becky and Joyce plotline and I'm getting incredibly nervous about how it's going to go.)

I hate it just on the principle that he killed Shortpacked so he try and force his readers into Dumbing. I liked the craziness of Shortpacked. Plus I was in the middle of catching up on "It's Walky" when he pulled it for restructuring and I just cannot find where I was up to in the new system.

I can understand that.

I mean from a writing point of view I might guess that maybe ideas dried up.

I'm curious about "It's Walky" because I would like to see all of the stuff that happened and where the characters came from.

It is super dull at first, that is why I was so pissed when he pulled the entire database for the restructuring. I was just getting into the good stuff, and then all my bookmarks were made out of date and 404'd because of the URL changes. You can't even use the links at Tvtrurds to hop to the relevant tropey strip because of the URL change. I am not going to slog through tonnes and tonnes of turgid strips again.

I can't enjoy Becky at all.

I don't agree with some parts of the comment section that critisizes her attitude or behavior while she was homeless and queer, but she was introduced as the kind of "friend" I HATE.

I enjoy Joyce, Dorothy and Billie/Ruth though.

What kind? I'm curious.

I sort of see her really laying on the whole lesbian thing as a reaction to having to hide it forever. I guess I'm just forgiving until I see her mess up because I kinda feel like she wasn't at her healthiest when she was running away from her father.

As for the "crush" thing, I'm hoping she moves past her feelings for Joyce for Dina and they can have a good relationship. Honestly I really like their interaction and I feel like if she has someone she's with it'll help her move on.

I like Joyce a lot mostly because I relate to her a bit. She was who I was when I was in my teens.

the kind of person that make it their sport to tease their "friend/crush" endlessly, even if it crosses into bullying territory (imo, but I'm biased).

she teamed up with Walky to tease Joyce beyond her comfort zone and yet acted entitled and jealous when it came to Dorothy, even though she hadn't replied to Joyce's calls even before she got outed.

I think she was intentionally written as obnoxious at first to then yank it around.

she is written as less annoying now, so you're probably right about it being due to her situation, but it colored my view on her.
somehow I don't /believe/ her interest in Dina, for example.

it might be some internalized bs that makes me cringe at her loud openness, dunno.

Well, we all have different experiences that can color our perceptions. For me personally I like Dina and Becky's relationship for many reasons. Partly because I relate with Dina in a lot of things, but especially in the way that because of how she is (I know a lot of people on tumblr throw autism headcanons around but Dina seems literally like she's written with Asperger Syndrome) people assume she's more innocent and childlike and she stands up to them and asserts the fact that she's an adult. I also feel like Becky treats her like a peer and love interest, which is refreshing.
