Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required (for those who struggle with captchas and stuff).

Are there any Tolkien works you think are worth a read besides The Hobbit, LotR, and Silmarillion?

If I try to read the Silmarillion again (I was a little too young the first time I tried), are there any resources you would recommend for keeping track of who is who? I had problems with that.

For other stories, I'd recommend Children of Hurin and Unfinished Tales. Children of Hurin is actually in Unfinished Tales so you wouldn't have to read that twice (you could just get UT to get both but I think the standalone CoH is less intimidating for some people). Children of Hurin is told like an actual story, rather than a history, and is a little more manageable than even the Silm. Unfinished Tales has some great stories that flesh out some backhistory stuff and they're more complete than some of the snippets you get in other books. I'd probably recommend reading Children of Hurin first but it doesn't really matter.

If you're still looking for something to read after that, you could try the two Books of Lost Tales. They're some of the earliest writings so there's a lot that's different. Indeed, some of the stories and characterizations are almost unrecognizable. But, these books contain some of the completest stories for missing scenes (for instance, the Fall of Gondolin is definitely worth a read).

And if you're still up for more after that, there are some short stories like the Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth, The Wanderings of Húrin, The New Shadow, and Tal-Elmar that I'd recommend. But you're getting into harder core stuff now, and I wouldn't justify buying the HoMe books just for these stories unless you're really digging Lost Tales and Unfinished Tales. Other than the Children of Hurin, all the other books I mentioned include a lot of notes and commentaries. The stories are more fragmented for the most part. So, if that will throw you out, I'd just add Children of Hurin to your reading list.

There's a "The Silmarillion Reader’s Guide" on this page. The author of this tumblr is generally pretty good about answering questions, though she does present her headcanons as fact on occasion or is just wrong. So, grain of salt. But, overall, her resources are pretty good.
