I think more apartments should allow pets.

I know, pets can legitimately cause damages, but even the apartments that do allow pets in my city (like, 0.0001% of apartments) make you pay an absurd amount of money for pet deposit, except you're already paying a normal deposit, too and it's assumed you'd pay for any damages you cause anyway, even if it exceeds that deposit.

idk. It's so hard to find apartments that allow pets and I think that shouldn't be a thing. I'm happy to pay more rent or whatever (well not happy but understanding) but it's like, that's not even an option in most cases.

I agree on this. I can understand the potential hassle for dog owners in particular when it comes to living in apartments-it's a little more work to take them outside to do their business, for instance, than it would be if you lived in a house and just opened the door and let them out into your backyard. Plus, since other people live in the apartment complex, if a dog owner wasn't good about cleaning up after their dog, that would pose an issue, too. And some pets do make a lot of noise or can be rather rambunctious, and I can see where neighbors might not always appreciate that.

But obviously, all of that, along with your mention of damage risks, can be avoided, or at least better handled and managed, if the pet owner is responsible. If an owner and their pets pose a serious issue/problem to the apartment complex/other residents, then certainly, they should be dealt with and kicked out if necessary.

Otherwise, though, if a person takes care of their pets and is willing to put up the money for any potential deposits or damages or whatever, then I think they should be allowed to let their pets live with them if they move into an apartment building.

As a landlord, I partly agree. We used not to allow pets at all, and then I reflected that the only times we had problems with pets, the owners were terrible tenants in every other way as well. On the other hand, when people are responsible in one way (like pet care), I think that's a good indication that they are responsible in other ways. So the answer isn't to ban pets, it's to screen the tenants more rigorously. I do expect the pets to be spayed/neutered and to have all their shots. Also, I ask for a pet deposit, because things do happen despite the best intentions, but it's refundable.
