Ableism? Colin was never handicapped -- it was just a genuine assumption that he was. He learned to walk as part of the novel's themes of getting out and getting fresh air and being the healthiest you can be. Even if he never learned to walk (or never could) he would have done better in the fresh air and sunshine.
