I wish people would learn to recogize things: books, movies, cartoons, whatever, are products of their time, and leave it at that.

You start taking metaphorical scissors to works, just to trim out one offending bit and there you go, down the slippery slope.

That may be true, but in this situation, why does it have to go away at all? What benefit do we get from pretending that people in the past -- and specifically, the British colonial occupation of India -- wasn't racist?

How many people use terms like 'original' Grimm fairytales without recognizing that they were fanfic of much older fairytales and there are other collections out there?
