I will always be sore at a certain bunch of friends who pressured me into going camping with them in the Black Hills of South Dakota in February, where they had to track down a state trooper to get permission to stay in a closed campground, on a night when the temperature got down to 11 degrees F (which I know because I was so cold, I "slept" in the truck [I didn't sleep] and turned it on from time to time to get warm), and in a closed campground where there were no unlocked toilets. And then the next day we climbed Bear Butte and there was ice on the narrow trails running right up along the face of the butte with a straight drop of hundreds of feet, and by the time I reached the top I had developed a fever and got so weak on my feet that on the descent I had to slide down the icy stretches of the trail on my ass so that I wouldn't slip and plummet to my death. And then my friends made fun of me not only for that, but for getting sick and not liking to camp, too.

That was 12 years ago and I will always be bitter.

God, that sounds like a nightmare. I've had healthier people make fun of my inability to be as physical as them before, it's such an asshole move. Also, camping of any kind is completely unappealing to me - I own a perfectly good bed, complete with a roof over it.

That's my take on it, too. But, oh no, apparently I'm ~soft~ because I can't sleep without such extravagant luxuries like a mattress underneath my ~delicate frame~
