I remember reading that book as a kid and liking it, but idk Mary's character confused me.
One minute shes an angry spoiled brat who doesn't care that her parents are dead and hates people, and the next she's a shining angel of goodness and kindness who wants to help everyone, espcially the crippled kid she barley knows.
It's been like 10+ years since I read the book so maybe I'm remembering it wrong but idk.

I have nothing else to add, other than chill out op.

The part where she develops and transforms IS the book. I think you're probably forgetting quite a lot about the novel, because it's not an overnight change.

Heee. Yeah, you're forgetting quite a bit, since one of the first things she does to make Colin actually stop being 'hysterical' is scream at him at the top of her lungs. So it's not exactly overnight.

"Suddenly?" You mean 3/4ths of the entire novel later? Her character development is the entire main plot.
