It's certainly best the first time. I've not tried rewatching it a lot. The surprise and fear factor is a big deal.

I do feel like the character grew, a lot actually. I took the comment as a sarcastic self-aware put down.

The thing I like about this episode is that it stands alone. You don't need to follow three or four seasons worth of episodes to get it. I really appreciate that these days!!

They were popular enough to get more additions (the angels), but I think if they hadn't, if they had only appeared in this one episode, it would've been enough to be satisfactory.

I have fond memories of the episode, but I don't think rewatching it would ever be able to recapture that first WTF feeling of it. :-)
