(Anonymous) 2008-03-07 02:37 am (UTC)(link)Oh, I don't know, fans of Hadashi no Gen, Cat's Eye or even Hikaru no Go, fans of Nagai Go or just plain old Tezuka (who did, surprise surprise, have several titles in Jump once upon a time - Shounen Jump, too) might disagree.
Let alone the fans of Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita (Business Jump), Gantz (Young Jump) or Inoue Takehiko (who published in Young Jump and Shounen Jump, among others).
I'm kinda partial to Big Comic Original (due to their load of Urasawa) myself and honestly, the current titles in SJ kinda put me in despair, but to say all Jump imprints are automatically bullshit kinda misrepresents the situation.
Or maybe that's just me, seeing I don't even know what Dogs is in the first place and don't really give a damn.

Oh my goodness I didn't realize I was fucking such a beehive when I tried to say that I don't think there's anything world-shattering in Shounen Jump right now. Considering how rare good manga (or good comics in general) is, I didn't really think that was a pretty big stretch.
As fond as I am of huge, all-encompassing blanket statements, I guess I have to make sure to dot all my i's before I say anything that could cause people to jump right up my ass (JUMP GET IT) on F!S, because I sure as hell wasn't trying to say that Jump has never published anything worthwhile.
MY GOODNESS. All I was trying to say is that you can't shit on DOGS and then like Bleach, because they're really about on par with each other.

Statement the third: If you occasionally bothered to adjust your tone before flipping out and attempting to show how much you not care, people might not want to kick your arse to Mercury, if you know what I mean.
Statement the fourth: I'd guess the person doesn't dig Bleach either. Popular != good. In fact, usually something being popular means a direct trip to shittytown to drown in the ever same formula until you shit liquid boredom.
Incidentally, I hate Bleach and the last Jump title I read with any regularity AND finished was probably Rurouni Kenshin, so stop jumping on MY ass (LOL I MADE A FUNNY AIN'T I COOL).

I was trying to say was that things that are popular are rarely good, BUT that doesn't mean that it's shameful to read them. Not everything is going to be Citizen Kane, and it's okay to go watch some worthless summer blockbuster every once in a while.
Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but I wasn't really under the impression that anybody reading DOGS in particular had any sort of pretension that it was anything new, groundbreaking or even really special, but hey. Apparently I often overestimate the ability of fans to let things roll off their back, judging by all of this mess of COMPLETELY missing my point.
By the way, I'm flattered that you read up on DOGS just to try to attack me! I've never had anybody make angry assumptions about my taste before!
