And I understand about the difficulty of showing pure emotion. But people truly close to me also know of these deep seeded emotions, but I tend to let it out in small bursts, because I don't think anyone besides my mother who would be ale to handle the entire brunt of my emotions.
But, it doesn't matter that you spare your emotions. You still find ways to express them deeply, and that is much better then the tendency of some people to simply ignore them. I hope you don't have to find a time where you must sacrifice your life for the cause of something or someone else, but accepting that a day may come is still a way to carry that baggage.
Again, you're not a hypocrite for changing the way you think. You should always find ways to change your ideas about life and death in that never ending quest for human understanding. We'll never fully understand each other, but hell, it's worth going for, right?
Re: OP #1
I believe no one should ever have to be strong emotionally 100% of the time. It would drive them mad or remove a key part of what makes us unique creatures in the rest of God's green-but-greying-earth. Alas, it's good that things turned out alright at the end of the road. But it doesn't help that the road to tranquility can suck balls sometimes.
And in fiction, there are great truths about humanity that can only be shown in the darkest of characters or seeds of hope.
