Ah, well, that's cultural appropriation trap number 2, isn't it? Someone says, in all innocence, that they know people from X culture who are fine with sharing and some little internet enforcer will go off on one about how one or two people can't speak for a whole culture omg and how those people have just internalised their oppression and you actually need permission from the whole community which actually translates as "You need need permission from ME and you can't have it cos otherwise what would I write irate blog posts about?"

Cultural appropriation can be a real thing, but the Internet turns everything stupid, so that's why we get the situations you describe.

That said (and I'm the same half-Japanese from earlier), I really couldn't care less if someone decides to dress up as geisha (slutty or otherwise) at a Halloween party.

Oh, of course, there is genuine instances of actual CA. I'm talking about the internet version where everything is just a booby-trap for the unwary so some dickhead can feel superior to someone else over their choice of packed lunch.
