I thought the only major villain was her dad, and he was a dick from the start.

I think one of her brothers was a "villain" too and he's the one who came up with the plan to kill Dinah's husband and the other men in the city.

It's been a long time since I've read the book, so I can barely remember who all was in it. I just don't remember walking away with the impression that everyone was evil. But that wouldn't really bother me in a story so maybe everyone evil!flipped and it just didn't sink in.

I've only seen the miniseries so idk how close an adaptation of the book it is, but that's not the impression I got re: villains? But perhaps the book is quite different.

I read the book a while ago because it was mentioned in a Carolyn Mackler book and so many parts of it confused me, especially that "opening of the womb" scene. I didn't really like it, but the ending did make me cry.

The womb opening scene was a massive piece of bullshit that the author 100% invented, along with just about every other damn piece of religious stuff she put in there. It was also really creepy and gross imo (not to mention fucking dangerous, they could have ruptured something in there)

Yeah, I remember reading that scene and thinking, "WTF? Are they doing what I think they're doing?". It was just a really, really weird scene and I didn't understand why the writer felt it necessary to add it in with such graphic detail.

This was my "Blind Date with a Book" for Valentine's Day at the library.

So disappointed.

Then again, Blind Date.

TBH, I'd be surprised if Bible fanfiction had a nuanced portrayal of good vs. evil.

This leaves me wondering how much of the Bible you've actually read and how much you have just absorbed "religion=dumb" unreflexively.
