A couple of months ago I downloaded the trial version of RPG maker and spent hours and hours making a game. It was super fun and I convinced myself that I could maybe make money with it. Of course the trial ran out and so I never finished it... it's not really surprising but sad to hear that there's a backlash against it now. I'm sure it's not just you, OP. I can't say I've played enough RPG maker games to have an opinion.

There's often bundles of RPG maker games, and they go way down during the Steam Sale. You can either keep an eye out on humble bundle and bundlestar in hopes that they'll run another RPGmaker bundle so you can get huge amounts of game assets for like 10$, or get them at like 3+$ a piece around the next steam sale.

Agreed, keep a watch! I managed to get the maker plus 10 other expansion packs worth close to 275 for 50 on a good sale.
