Re: Great source; baaaaaad fic

I've read some of DeejayMil's fics, but her biggest Hotch/Reid series is truly huge, so I'm saving it for when I'm in the mood for a marathon session. It's one with daemons so you're right about the supernatural elements. Honestly, I hadn't noticed that, but I also spend a lot of time in BBC Sherlock fandom and weird gets a whole new meaning there.

I think the whole supernatural theme might have something to do with the lack of interaction on screen and lack of UST fics. People can see them together as normal people just fine, it's getting them there that's the problem. But if there's magic or scenting or whatever involved, that's taken care of. It's more than a bit lazy IMO. It's one thing if they're already pining for each other and then suddenly they find out that 'omg, our soulmarks match', but if they're strangers/co-workers and nothing more until *trope* and suddenly they're madly in love, that's boring.

I might be wrong though, I tend to skip a lot of supernatural fics.

Btw, while there aren't as many as I'd like, there are a few UST fics. I don't know about 'unrequited'. I do remember a few dealing with Beth. Sometimes that meant unrequited, or they had been together but weren't anymore,...Good stuff ;)

Yeah, the show sometimes drops the ball on the character/relationship stuff. But in this case it's pretty obvious. They had a nice connection in the first few seasons and then it seemed like it was suddenly gone. Occasionally there'll be moments, but...I honestly thought after Maeve died, Hotch would be the most logical choice, but that was never really dealt with at all.

JJ and Reid are really sweet. I think I see a more sibling-like relationship too though. The way she comforts him and gives him advice. I think I would have shipped it more if they hadn't shot it down in the same ep they first suggested it. Or was it the one after? But I binge-watched the first few seasons and it felt like 'oh, that's a cute ide-oh, guess not'.

And there are JJ/Reid shippers who want her kids to be his? I'm with you on that one, that's no fun. A big part of Hotch/Reid fics is dealing with Jack and how is he going to fit into this. So I totally get why that aspect would appeal.

Morgan definitely cares a lot about Reid (and vice versa), but to me it definitely feels like he views him as a kid brother. Someone who needs looking out for at times. Though maybe Morgan's just the type of guy who feels that way about everyone. A protector, you know.

I'm terrible with fic names and authors, so there's only one name I can give you for Hotch/Reid fics right now: EloquentDossier. I don't like/haven't read all of them, lots of AUs and supernatural stuff again. But I did like: Late Nights Verse, Bright, Golden Letters Verse (soulmarks), Chain Reaction (AU), Come Undone (WIP, Omegaverse which I tend to shy away from, but this has a cool twist and an awesome Reid).
