Peggy's clothes are intentionally ugly as fuck, as they reflect Peggy's awkwardness and development as a professional. I recommend Tom & Lorenzo's Mad Style series for more on analyzing Mad Men characterization through costuming. Start on the last page of the tag and work your way back-- early posts cover seasons 1-3 together, then they go episodically from S4 on. Very intelligent and interesting reading for any Mad Men fan.

I used to read it in S4 or so, but I still think Peggy's fashion is ugly. ESPECIALLY when she grows into herself.
