Am I missing something?

I mean, to me, none of those pictures suggests anything but friendship. Unless you're saying they're not actually friends.

Do you know a lot of straight male friends who are as affectionate as that left middle photo? I don't know any, and I don't know many that hang around with their arms around each other's shoulders.

Yes, I do. I'm sorry you know shit people.

Whoa, hey. There's nothing inherently shitty about not being affectionate, just like there's nothing inherently gay about BEING affectionate.

ayrt

Yes, I know men who are straight and affectionate with each other (I also know gay guys that are affectionate with their straight guy friends). And, I know lots of guys who hang around with their arms around each other - like, pretty much every guy on any sort sports team, even a casual two-on-two pick-up game.

Yeah, idk, I'm with the other anons here, most of my guy friends are affectionate with each other. This idea that men are afraid of being seen as ~gay~ so they won't be in any way affectionate with each other is actually really dated, and it embarrasses me that so many fangirls still cling to it.

Poor Jensen, the fandom bicycle. Secretly married to Jared, fake married to Daneel ( or whatever that hot redhead is called) and banging Misha on the side. He must be exhausted.

I'm with you anon. Of all the guys I know (as well as all the guys I went to high school and post secondary with) I can think of...practically none who really touched each other at all, unless they were playing sports or pretend-fighting.

It's different in different cultures, I guess.
I personally think there's nothing wrong with friends sharing hugs and stuff. I know I do it all the time :) None of my friends ever objected.

Yeah, I guess so.

And for the record, I definitely don't think there's anything wrong with friends being physically affectionate with each other (as long as they're both comfortable with it, of course). I think it would be a good thing if guys in particular felt more free to be physically affectionate with each other. And I definitely wouldn't presume they were secretly gay/bi or anything like that.

I think it can be enjoyable, if you ship a couple of characters together, to squee over every look and touch and crow about their epic luurrrvvve and all that. I mean, that's just the way a huge chunk of fandom rolls. But when it comes to reality, I don't do that kind of thing. Two male friends hugging is just two male friends hugging.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it; it's just not something I see a much of.
