Then why are they called that??

Honestly I'll never get over the terribly disappointing coat I online-ordered from them as a naive college freshman.

Because they originated as an outerwear outlet store. But you do more year-round business if you sell other clothes too, rather than primarily winter coats.

The ones nearest to me aren't even called "Coat Factory" anymore, just Burlington! Perhaps they rebraded because people think they only sell coats. Or maybe it's that we Southern Californians don't have the highest demand for heavy-duty winter coats!
