Get a mouthwash containing clorhexidine gluconate. You may need a prescription, but it can usually be bought at drugstores and is by far the best treatment for canker sores, as it both dulls the pain and allows them to heal much faster than if they are left alone.

Def need a prescription for that here. My mom had some of it left over from a minor oral surgery and I tried it for a canker sore I had a couple years ago. It may have helped with pain a little, but I didn't notice any difference in the healing time; still around 10 days. Sucks.

I used to be prone to them too. It really does help, but you do have to be somewhat liberal with it and use it regularly for a few days. Cuts my healing time from around 7 days to around 4.
