Woah, what's the story? I vaguely know of this girl's makeup/cosplay videos. They'd get posted by cosplayers and such, usually making fun of her. While she definitely was not my cup of tea, I figure teenage girls can live and let live. I do remember rumors that people would say her mom was... overbearing or something, like they slept in the same bed, but I didn't care enough to look into it. I'm really curious now, what's the story?

Holy shit. I went ahead and read up about the drama because whatever, and it's fascinating in a... like, feels like a drama movie type way. This mother is totally fucked up. She threw a knife at Venus's head once, beat her, tried to convince her that she had autism, accused her of being an animal abuser (when she was three she had a hamster who died and apparently mother dearest convinced her it was her fault, because she had nightmares and would scream in fear at night). This mother is classic narcissistic personality disorder, dressing up in Venus's doll outfits even while they are at televised photography events and trying to get them to take pictures of her, always showing up at Venus's interviews and trying to do all the talking, now allowing Venus to have any friends, and now she's totally gone nuts since Venus finally ran away from her. She's apparently squatting in Japan, harassing Venus and her boyfriend and trying to get Venus to come home with her. This is insane.

so why did this girl get so much hate in the first place? She looks familiar but I can't say I've seen any of her videos...

I'm guessing it's because she looks like a doll, which is pretty creepy to most people. I've never seen hate for her on the Internet, but that's why people I know irl dislike her.

I'm guessing it's because of her "how to look Korean/Japanese/Chinese/etc." videos when she herself is white.

Her persona (or real personality, who the fuck knows) was like the worst weaboo you could imagine. Her voice, if you listen to the videos, sounds like someone trying to do a bad Japanese accent and the way she films, she does exaggerated anime movements and such (covering her mouth, big eyes, bobbing her head, all very unnatural). To be fair, her accent probably isn't the best critique, since she's Swiss-Hungarian or something and moved a lot as a kid, a lot of people just assumed she was a native English speaker or whatever. Though the high-pitched voice was pretty grating to a lot of people. Anyway, she sort of came across as a bit crazy and overly into "kawaii" culture.

She also does makeup videos and such, and did a few that were probably pretty offensive, like how to look Arabic, how to look Japanese, kind of ones.

But I think a lot of the hate was better placed with her mom even back then. Her mom was notorious for deleting any negative comments, getting into fights with people, and whenever Venus had media interviews, the mom would be nasty, take attention for herself, etc. She was really a piece of work and I think initially people associated that hateful personality with Venus herself. Now that all this crazy abuse is coming out (and really, no one is surprised) it seems even her haters are shocked and trying to support Venus herself.
