I ship the hell out of Mathilda/Leon, but the way this is written it utterly ridiculous and awful. "You deserve it, Leon"?? Are you fucking kidding me? It reeks of "Men deserve to deflower young, innocent girlchildren, it will purify them." I'm glad they took it out if this is how they were going to portray it.

Your leap from "Leon" to "men" says a lot more about you then it does about the movie.

Not really. That trope has been around for a long long time and it's usually applied only to men.

Oh please like cougars aren't heavily encouraged. They're seen as empowered while men who're into younger women are seen as creeps. Yeah, going from one person to All Men is a massive stretch.

NAYRT, but how is "pedophiles" equivalent to "cougars"? Cougars are genuinely understood to be older women who date men who, while younger, are certainly of legal age.

Also, the phenomenon of older men with younger women, or even girls, is vastly more represented in media.

All Men is how the script treats Leon in this scene, not how I see him, which is my problem with it. He adores Mathilda for very specific reasons that are specific to their situation and dynamic. The writing in this scene, though, reduces their relationship to "Leon is a terrible sinner who ~~~deserves sex from a child to cleanse him."

Yeah... when female characters start talking like that, half the time I start squinting. It's not always weird/creepy only-this-young-girl(not-mature-nagging-older-women)understands-me deflowering wish-fulfillment, but that scene, especially in the context of the movie and characters... barf.

yeah i agree with this. love this movie and what its trying to communicate, but a line like that takes all of the agency away from mathilda's character and makes it very weird and male fantasy-oriented.
