Boku dake ga Inai Machi/Erased
So I'm only three episodes in but calling it now, this show is going to be a modern classic.
I've not seen an anime that has been this mature, and emotionally complex in years.
The central focus is on a man who gets sent back to his childhood to solve a series of kidnappings. However, whilst that sounds fairly by numbers, it's serves as a reflection to view our childhood through adult eyes and the relationship we have with those in our lives, whilst being entirely true to it's late eighties setting.
Words can't really serve it justice, which is fitting, because so much of what it doesn't state.

(Anonymous) 2016-02-27 04:08 am (UTC)(link)First episode is a bit disjointed because it was cut down from a longer OVA but the other episodes are perfect.
Rakugo is Mad Men, Erased is Lost (and I think the Lost comparison is especially true because according to a friend of mine who reads the manga the story becomes not as good as it was after the first arc).

(Anonymous) 2016-02-27 03:57 am (UTC)(link)Because if it's the former, no it's not, it's a terrible translation that misses the point hard (the title of the manga/anime is also the title of a short story written by the main girl but thanks to the 'Erased' bullshit the reference is lost.)

(Anonymous) 2016-02-27 03:56 am (UTC)(link)Don't misunderstand me, I'm enjoying the show and all but between the obvious otaku pandering and how predictable it's turning out, I think it only stands out because this has been a rather weak season and in a few months no one will remember it.
I also don't think it's as mature and emotionally complex as you make it sound.
