I'll admit, not all of it was bad, but the best thing they ever did was Nuriko's death-- it all went downhill from there. Miaka is your typical 'cute but stupid' anime girl who's the heroine because she's super optimistic, cries sparkly shoujo tears, and is loved by every man in her immediate viscinity (even the gay ones) because of her innocense, naivite, and constant need to be saved. I really hate this archetype and she's one of the reasons. Even her friend, the supposed smart one, is a dumbass. How can these girls not be able to tell that they haven't actually been raped? They believe it because some strange guy told them so, despite the fact that there's no physical evidence to support it. It smacks of overwraught melodrama and if either of them had had a lick of common sense between them, could have been completely avoided. Most of the main characters are just broad charicatures with no dept but long shiny hair and pretty faces, so fangirls love them anyway (the one guy who wasn't pretty and seemed somewhat interesting never got any screentime), and the drawn-out, beaten to death, over-the-top romance between Miaka and Tamahome made me want to chew tin foil by the end. So much of it was needless, so much was overdone or poorly done, so few characters were interesting, and the crux of the entire plot hinged on the two heroines' complete lack of a brain stem or emotional maturity (to the point where neither of them were sympathetic at all) that the show is unwatchable for me. And yet I see these same things crop up over and over again in other shows.

Ahhh thank you so much. A lot of those are complaints that I've had (especially the rediculous "MIAKA!!" "TAMAHOME!!" romance) but was never able to properly explain to my fangirling friends.

I KNOW! ;_; Mitsukake was my total favorite, and do wish he'd had more than just 10 lines in the whole series. His death = me sobbing while the roomies stared at me in confusion

Well feel free to use my bitter ramblings, if you like. I'm just glad I finally got to vent that somewhere, that's bothered me for years.

And I really hated how Mitsukake was always an afterthought. Even his death was just a blip on the radar and nobody really seemed to care that much afterward. He seemed like an interesting character (granted, that might be because he never got any screentime and the author couldn't louse him up, too) and it really annoys me that the big guys who actually (gasp) look like men get totally ignored most of the time. I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked him.
