I think their point was that a lot of doll people get very snooty about people in "their hobby" who can't afford to drop that much money on a doll when they can.

I get their point but they also italicized "doll" as if it's ridiculous for people to spend that much of their money on it. Regardless of how messy the fandom is I don't think it's my business or anyone else's how people spend their income. Not to mention I've know some people into the hobby who really aren't rich, they just save their money because it's something they enjoy.

I think that emphasis was 'this isn't the cost of the collection, this is the cost of the individual dolls'.

That was my impression too.

OP

You are exactly right. I've seen other people with what you would consider pretty expensive hobbies nearly do the whole comical faint thing when you mention the price of some of these BJDs. And considering the fact that a lot of people have the money to buy a $1500 doll every other month or so, there is a lot of elitism that goes on. I don't begrudge anyone spending money on their hobby, and in fact the more money someone has let's be real, the better their collection often looks and seeing someone talented with money to burn creating stuff is really fun.

But it bothers the fuck out of me when the people with money to burn act like there's some quality or price threshold to be in this hobby. Let people join if they love BJDs, who gives a shit if they can only afford a ResinSoul and do their own "amateur" faceup, it's about them having fun and joining in a hobby they adore, not about showing how much money you've burned on little resin people.
