Closer to the latter than the former. Pokemon, as with all Nintendo series, won't end with a bang but with a whimper. They'll just stop making them one day, either because the sales die off or some other bullshit like happened with Metroid.

I think there's definitely going to be some form of "anthology" nature to this new one. Don't know what it is, but something. Maybe an Elite Four made up of previous champions, maybe the return of some (or all) of the criminal organizations, but something like that.

That would be neat. Also it would be an interesting idea to do a new Evil Team that happens to be the brainchild of a few of the previously-seen baddies. Maybe even some who weren't the bosses.
