I consider it a matter of threat management, to themselves and to others. Most people, maybe all people, believe in at least one thing that doesn't exist. If they use that as a weapon, they need to be stopped, and if they hurt themselves, they need to be helped. Nothing in OP's post makes it sound like they're in any distress.

Yes, but this goes beyond 'I believe angels exist' and into 'I believe Angels are speaking to me and I am in a romantic relationship with one.' That's a problem. Sure, they're not in any distress NOW, but the thing about delusions is that they are, by nature, not reliable and not good for you. Their delusions can get worse, and likely will if they're not getting help. (I'm actually pretty sure it's a troll secret,but just in case it's not...)

Not at the moment. But when you're dealing with someone who (let's say for the sake of argument they're genuine and not a troll) believes they reached the astral plane via meditation and now have an angel as a romantic partner, you cannot know how far their delusions go. Saying that oh well, they don't seem like a danger right this minute is very tolerant of you, but really it's a little too tolerant. It's like saying well, that ten year old is doing a good job of babysitting their 6 month old brother so far, so we should just leave them to it.

It's not really the same thing at all-- most people who suffer (or, um, don't 'suffer') from delusions are not violent nor will they become violent. The issue isn't OP becoming a danger to others, which is not likely. They might themselves be at risk from others, particularly thanks to the false narrative that too many people believe, about the mentally ill being inherently dangerous/violent (if OP has a mental illness, which... by the very nature of f!s, I'll never know.)


If they are getting by, if they are not in a place where this is causing them problems in other areas of life, then they don't really need psychiatric help at this point. Psychiatric help is mostly for those who aren't functioning as they could/should be, for whatever reasons they have. And if OP is functioning, then psychiatric help might even be the opposite of helpful right now. Like, if you're getting by okay in life and you have some stability/security and your other relationships are going fine and you're happy, there's absolutely no reason to pay someone to confront you about your 'problems'. If OP's life was suffering as a result of the relationship or if people who know them in real life felt like they needed help, that would be one thing, but if it's something that isn't adversely affecting any other part of their life... honestly, the last thing they need is to be called out as crazy when they have everything under control.


To be honest, my biggest problem with OP's secret is that they don't enjoy the novel itself as much as I do.
