Things you were judgey of... until you started doing them

What are things, fandoms or otherwise, that you were judgmental of? Ships, series, games, hobbies, whatever... until you started to do/watch/play/whatever yourself?

Halo. I dismissed it forever as dudebro bullshit, but the first three games at least are lovely, with an understatedness to them that I recognize from Bungie's Marathon days.

(to be fair, I probably wouldn't have gotten into it if not for Marathon)

I never had time to be judgemental of Halo because I played the first game at launch and loved it. They're damn solid games and I legitimately like the universe they're set in and the backstory.

Plus, hey, fun.

being attracted to the same gender.

I was judgmental-ish as a teen because of upbringing, then cooled down when I actually met some people who were LGBT and understood it more. Then around the time I was 18-19 I started having fantasies myself and now- welp.

When I first got into my fandom I was judgey of some of the extremely fluffy/humorous content because I thought it was serious. As soon as I realized it was crack and people didn't actually think it was canon I was totally on board.

Flight Rising, probably!

Mainly because bleh browser game, but also because I thought it was the same as those "clickable" things, which I remain judgey of mostly because they spam up all the forums I frequent and I don't get the appeal. Flight Rising, though, is fun!

Ummm...shipping slash. I was raised fairly conservative. I don't know how exactly it happened, but I think fandom actually helped me become more accepting.

I used to think anal was gross when it was a man and a woman doing it (I had no judgment when it was two men doing it). But then I discovered a smut writer who wrote a lot of incredibly hot het anal sex scenes, and that changed my mind pretty fast.

I also used to think slash was so popular because fandom was sexist and just wanted to get women out of the way. I'd only ever shipped het pairings at that point in time, so I kind of didn't know what I was talking about. Now, fandom being sexist is way down my list of reasons why slash is popular. Not saying it's never a factor, but I think there are some other totally valid reasons that are a lot more predominant.

Yoga. I thought it was full of no-good hippies pretending to be spiritual but it was actually really good exercise and helped me a lot with my back and joint pain.
