Guys, by sheer chance I sniped a Water and Nature sprite from the Auction House. They were like 5kt. I happened to see them and bought them both.

Before, I was like, fuck sprites I'll never waste all that money on buying something that has no practical use. But now I'm like... I want all the sprites... how do I save for all the sprites..

Wait...sprites are worth a lot of money? I got like 3.

Sprites were the holiday familiars for flight rising's first year. They are actually kind of hard to come by and most of them do usually sell for a lot of money. Personally I don't really collect familiars so I've never tried to buy one.

Huh. Dang. If I needed money, I'd buy some. But I never buy anything so I am just hoarding gold like a miser.

I already have expensive tastes in genes and apparel. So I've decided not to go expensive on familiars. If I get valuable ones I sell them.

I wish there was an addon for that.

That would be useful.

Right now I'm just waiting for petal to come out. I'm saving all my gems because I have 8 pairs at least that need the gene.

nyart but man I wish I knew the ETA for new genes. I've saved a bunch of gems, enough to buy a new gene, anyway. I'm debating giving Stained to one of my dragons (I already bought it once)... but I also want to be right on top of any new genes that come out.

Though, I thought I heard that they try to space out gem and treasure genes. Since we just got a Gem gene, maybe the next one will be Treasure. Or maybe Ghost, in Baldwin's?

They've given us two treasure genes since we got Butterfly (Stained and Thyacaline or whatever it is). Petal will probably be next.

I put stained on one pair. I mostly don't like it, this pair both had three colors in the neutral range, so it worked. I don't think it works most of the tiem.

Stained is a Gem gene!

I think Stained has limited use, but can look really cool if the tert is either a white range color or black range color.

That's what I have it on. I have it on a pair that is in the black range with poison/toxin genes so there is a bit of grey in there as well. These two:

They are my one non-double or triple pair and I think the gene works well on them.

I'm hoping to get a coatl with white stain someday, since white stained on coatls makes it look like their canon lore of "sick" coatls, and I want to play with that.

Plus blue-ranged stained on white/white freck/speck looks like statuary, so I'm going to be keeping my eye out for after the new color wheel comes out.

Did I say worth a lot of money? I mean, very cheap and useless and I will be happy to take them off your hands! XD

(they're "retired", so they are worth quite a bit, especially the oldest ones like Light Sprite. There's a limited amount in circulation, basically.)

Lucky! I'm a relatively new player, joined last fall, so buying the sprites full price at their current Auction House values is basically impossible for me. (Unless people randomly list them for cheap prices, by mistake or for the lols, idk) I didn't think I cared at all, since they don't actually do anything, but since getting those two I've been kind of obsessively imagining scenarios where I can buy them, or win them in raffles or something.

I think it is interesting what people get into on FR. There really is kind of something for everyone. People collect familiars, they hoard various items, the buy a lot of apparel, or they just focus on genes or whatever. I'm really happy just focusing on making pretty dragons and selling their babies and occasionally using the Coli to train dragons to get more money for genes, but it is nice that people have other things they can do.

Haha, I never thought I'd care about collecting familiars. But collecting is one of those things - you start getting some, get a false sense of achievement and think the only logical path is to go forward with it. Overall, though, I just like making cool looking dragons, though I've found my tastes are not necessarily the "popular" options. I'm also slowly getting interested in adding genes to Gen 1 dragons, which is also a very expensive hobby.

I honestly wish my tastes were less popular. Because I like expensive genes. I go either shiny or butterfly for everything other than a few pairs. Gem genes all the way.

At least since I mostly have doubles and triples, my hatchlings tend to sell pretty well.

Congrats! I always hear of others sniping cheap things, but it never happens to me.

However, also kinda poor you. I hadn't intended on collecting the sprites because I thought they were way overpriced. But then I got sucked into it and ended up buying them all. I basically didn't buy anything else for months upon months. And I lived in the coli, leveling and exalting and selling rare drops. It kinda sucked.

If you have any art skill whatsoever, that is absolutely the best way to make money on the site. Accents, adoptables, "real" art. If you don't have art skill, you can live in the coli like I did. Flipping hatchlings works if you have room in your lair. (Hatching your own from "fodder" pairs works well too.) Sniping MP stuff works if you are willing to camp in the MP every five minutes and have a fast internet connection and fast reflexes. I hear if you are good at artifracture that it can be an easy source of treasure. (I am awful at it, though.) Buying apparel and melting it down in Baldwin and then selling the slime is profitable. (Sell the grey slime mid to end week during festival weeks for maximum profit.) I also highly recommend bonding with familiars, as the gems from the chests are useful for savings. (Edit: Or just sell the chests for gems. I hear that is profitable with the gilded ones. I can't resist opening them, though!)

Especially keep watch with dom battles. People made millions off of us and Plague during the last battle. From selling us both leveled and unleveled dragons to exalt. Plus you could luck out and win a sprite in a raffle.

Ohh you got them all? Wow, that's awesome! "Sucked in" is a good way of putting it. I almost wonder if it was the admins who planted those cheap sprites, as a way of getting me addicted, haha. It doesn't really make sense, since no familiar does anything that any other familiar doesn't, it's literally just a piece of art... but I think realizing how much everyone else valued it, then suddenly getting one, made me involuntarily start valuing them, too.

And thanks for the money-making tips! Naturally the sprites I got were the cheapest of the lot, I think the next one is Earth Sprite which is like, 2 million in the Auction House. I haven't even gotten 1 million treasure, so that kind of makes my head spin. But I also randomly buy a lot of stuff, so maybe if I cut down spending it'd all actually add up.

And heyo, are you Light flight then? I am, too! I need someone else to have a big dom battle so I can actually profit, too! XD I don't think I took advantage enough of Fire vs Ice.

Thankfully I did my collecting a year to a year and a half ago. That was several registration windows ago, so except for the Light Sprite, most of them were under a million treasure. (Fire was just over.) It is so much harder to collect them now, and I feel for all of you doing so. Looking back on it, I wish I had bought more copies of them. I didn't think they'd jump this high, though, as they were stable for a really long time. (I tracked prices in a spreadsheet for buying purposes.)

Yup on the valuing thing. I even outright said early in my FR career that I didn't think any familiar was worth that kind of treasure and I didn't know why people bought them. As there were so many other cheaper options. Uh... yeah. That lasted a long time. :P

Cutting down on spending helps. I wouldn't cut it out entirely, though, as that makes things not fun. A friend of mine has a budget. When she makes money, a certain percentage of it goes into different pots. (She's saving up for art, but the principle is the same.) So, like you could have 60% of your savings go to the sprite fund, 10% go toward buying dragons, 10% toward lair expansions, 10% to genes, and 10% to "fun" stuff. Or something like that.

I am. I transferred from Lightning to Light just over a year ago. I was hoping to profit off of Ice vs. Nature in a couple of weeks, but that doesn't seem like it will be so feasible. Are you part of the profit push this week? (And I totally didn't take enough advantage of Fire vs. Ice. I felt too bad selling overpriced mercenary dragons, so I mostly just sent in dragons to the raffles. And then didn't win anything. :P )

Baldwin will really be a good friend if you can remember to use the cauldron regularly. The expensive components really sell at a nice mark-up, and it isn't any effort on your part to toss things in. Even when there isn't a need for a specific material (like grey slime and copper muck during festivals), there is still a few k treasure profit on them, which is helpful and which adds up.

Ahh yeah, I heard even a year ago the prices were much less than they are now. Which makes sense, I guess, but now most of them are between like... 2 million and 30 million or something. It's crazy! But I guess there could be some fluctuation to prices, or people who want to trade... if I can just get my hands on stuff worth trading.

I've been profit pushing a bit, yeah, and sniping cheap dergs. I'd love if we placed on Dominance so we can get discounts! I do tend to use the cauldron pretty regularly though I ended up making loads of chests and skins during the festival, so my enormous stack of Greens has been somewhat depleted! I've occasionally had luck selling stacks of 10 Green goops for gems. That's probably the best way to do it, it's not exactly time consuming if you just remember to pop something in a couple times a day on your phone. I've also had luck selling stacks of 99 food, but making those requires Coli time.

Anyway, thanks for the tips! Let's see if I can successfully nab a few more sprites. XD Hey, at least I don't care about getting a Boolean or something... yet...

I have a couple, I got lucky and was gifted them. It's so hard to not start collecting, but those prices! And the fact that I'm shit at art, and so can't really make money. |D

I'm really crap at art, too! I wish I had a skill like that, but I don't think my stick figure dragons will win me any sprites. lol

I plunked down the gems for them. It was worth it to me since those damn things will keep getting more expensive and I don't have time to grind up for all that Treasure. I have a Shadow, Nature, Plague and Earth one. I want to get a Wind Sprite one day.
