This is also true for the Tolkien fandom. There are some authors who use every tag, including the Silmarillion ones, for their movie-based fics.

That only becomes valid if they are including a substantial amount of Silmarillion material (like surviving Fëanorions), but if not, I totally agree with you.

(Then again, I just checked Raven's Blade and Valandhir never used to Silarillion tag until Song of Stone, and the main story does have Maedhros and Maglor alive in it, so... *shrug*.)
