okay how else would you describe people who aren't really strongly religious but still go to church and observe christian events and whatnot because the rest of their family does and they kinda sorta believe in god or whatever but don't subscribe strongly to any religious doctrine?

You just described 90% of the Christians I know.

The other 10% are foreign missionaries.

exactly.

Lukewarm fucking Christians until they describe themselves as something else. Secular is a term specifically for that which is separate from religion or excludes religion. 'Secular Christian' is an oxymoron.

tell that to all the people who describe themselves as "secular" but still go to church. yes, they exist. there are more of them than you'd think.

personally i cant stand them

So, you don't like Christians, you don't like "secular" Christians, and you don't like ex-Christian atheists.

I'm starting to think you might have a problem with white people...

Hm. But I guess people have different reasons why they might want to hang on to something they don't strongly believe in. There were quite a few girls at my school who had serious doubts about their religion but wore a hijab/niqab because they wanted to express their culture.
I go to church sometimes because I'm in the field of literary and cultural studies and I wouldn't be able to find authenticity in my work on other cultures if I completely ignored the background that has shaped my own. I'm still an agnostic. But, sorry, getting involved with discussions about religion among other things is part of my job, even if you don't like it.

Ps: there's one sort of atheist I hate but I've encountered many of the type from Islamic background... it's the type that has a "god vs. Science" stance that's really just a holy war in which one of treatment gods is called "science". Most of the time these people don't have the slightest idea about fundamental principles of science... like scepticism or self-reflection.
