I've always been a huge fan of the universe ever since I first got CE, and remained even during Halo 4. I thought it had the most human story of the games, and I hoped Halo 5 would be like it.

Games, books, shorts, radio dramas, expanded universe, even the tabletop game, you name it. This franchise has been a big part of my life ever since I was a teenager. And yet I always told myself that, when I stopped being interested, I'd simply let it go and move on to something else.

Now that Halo 5 was released, alongside the abandonment of all plot threads, I'm terrified that I'm not as excited for the future of the universe as I used to be, with the Created plotline being executed in the worst possible way possible.

I've always been wary of doomsayers of any fandom saying a new story entry has ruined the franchise forever, but now I fear for the story now that it's been derailed. It has the hands of Brian Reed and plot changes ordered by Microsoft all over it.

Now that I realize I could actually let go of this universe, I realize I'm not ready. It's scarier not to have a main fandom than I first thought.

I miss Chris Schlerf.

As a relatively recent fan (got into it through my equally recent obsession with Marathon) I've been locked out of Halo 5 by dint of probably never going to buy an XBone. But I have to be honest and say that everything I've heard about it makes me glad I'm sticking with the Bungie trilogy and not going any further than that. I could've gotten 4, but I decided maybe it was best if I left the series where Bungie did.

It's like reading a really good comic book run by an amazing writer/artist team and then they change teams and it's some house style tripe with an awful story. I'm not going to stick around waiting for things to get better.

I haven't played Halo 5 yet (want to, but don't have an Xbox One), but I haven't heard much about it either. I didn't know it was received that badly...

I've enjoyed the Halo series too, books and comics and all. Can't say I've read every one, but I definitely consider myself a fan of the expanded universe, despite being behind.

However, I genuinely liked Halo 4. I'm not disappointed it was made, even though it definitely has a different feel to it then the rest of the series, and I don't like the design or story as much, but imo it's still a gorgeous game and I love how personal it is, even if the overarching plot just wasn't as interesting. I wouldn't play Halo if I didn't enjoy the story and setting, so it saddens me to hear the series is getting worse, not better. (Not that I'm surprised at this point. Most series don't make it past a couple titles before dipping in quality, and I've actually loved all the Halo games before now. Well, except Wars, always meant to play that, didn't get around to it, but Reach is one of my favorites and I thought ODST was good too.)
