If it's any inspiration, I can't think of anyone I would define as both awesome and ugly. Once you hit a level of awesomeness your physical form starts to stop mattering or becomes unique-in-relation-to-the-awesomeness-it-contains instead. You stop caring about the person's face or features and start thinking "oh it's that awesome person" instead because that's what matters.

Peggy from Mad Men is a ways from being ugly, but she's also a ways from being truly pretty. But she is awesome, and my favorite Mad Men character.

Edith Wharton was definitely not a looker, but her skill and style as a writer make her pretty interesting.
