Ghostbusters trailer!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still on the fence about this movie. On one hand, I REALLY liked the designs for the ghosts and the proton packs, and I think the cast has good chemistry (I really like Kate McKinnon's character). I'm afraid though that it's going to have the same problem as TFA - being a kinda-sorta reboot/remake and taking too many plot points from the original.

What do you guys think?

I really wish it'd gotten more of response out of me. I was really hype, but the trailer just...kind of left me with an overwhelming feeling of "meh." I don't know how to describe it, exactly, but it feels very...Paul Feig-y? It just feels like the same vibe as Bridesmaids and The Heat and the rest of his woman-centered movies. Very same-y. :/ I'll still go see it, but my excitement is really dampened.

I've come to the conclusion that I might be coming at this movie from a different direction to most people. I see it as an action film with some comedy rather than a comedy with action, so I expect to be entertained but if I don't laugh, it won't disappoint me. I feel like that's what a lot of people are looking for. So many comments about the trailer were that the jokes weren't funny or weren't original enough, and that just didn't bother me because I thought the whole thing looked entertaining.

As far as the TFA, I haven't seen the new Star Wars but hearing that it's basically a retelling of the original doesn't bother me at all. New characters are sufficient for me to be happy, because there will be new chemistry and freshness just from the new characters. I heard that TFA was purposefully derivative because the director wanted people to accept the new characters. Hitting so hard on the nostalgia and plot on the first go-around allowed him to introduce the new characters more safely and in a manner more people will accept. If the next movie takes more chances, then I think this is a good strategy. So, if they do something similar for Ghostbusters, I'm not bothered. Plus, I'm not the type who needs everything to be new and different and "fresh". There are no original ideas anymore. I think some of the story elements will have to be slightly different; that's enough for me.

And, it's been 30 years since the last Ghostbusters. I've obviously seen it in the interim but I don't remember it that well. It will be nice to see it in modern day with new characters. I think it will be fun if you want it to be fun, and you'll find things to hate if you want to hate it.

I feel exactly the same as you about the trailer. I was looking forward to Leslie Jones ever since I saw her on Adam Driver's SNL show. I don't care for the neon ghosts. They don't look scary at all. I'm just worried about it being funny or good in any way. I really love the originals, heck even the cartoon.

All I can say for sure is that trailer was terrible.

I was less on the fence about this, and then I saw the trailer.

And ...it reads kinda like Bridesmaids with ghosts. Not sure if it's just bad marketing, but I'm way less hype now than when I first heard the pitch.

I'm honestly just not interested in it at all. I loved the characters from the original Ghostbusters and the idea of watching a Ghostbusters movie that isn't about those characters just doesn't hold any interest for me.

Whoops, hit enter too soon. Anyway, I would've been interested if it had been a reboot/remake like Star Trek - the same characters but a different setting. It's the characters that make me like media; if you take out the characters I liked and replace them with a completely new lineup then chances are I'll lose interest.
